I've been very quickly looking through blogs/websites about compulsive skin picking and hair pulling. The link below is to one post from a large blog; this post in particular relates to the authors experience of skin picking and how she reflected on this after watching a TV show about it. I share her feelings on this 100%.

Hi, Caroline -
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with you . . . there are so many of us who struggle with self-harm in various forms -- and with suffocating depression. You are not alone.
And, your pain is great enough to warrent your full focus and attention; it is great enough for you to make it a top priority in your life.
May I quote a paragraph from the "Courage to Heal" book . . . ??
"It is possible to heal. It is even possible to thrive . . . thriving means enjoying a feeling of wholeness, satisfaction in your life and work, genuine love and trust in your relationships, pleasure in your body."
I trust you will find your own path to healing . . . your gut-feelings will guide you, I promise. Trust your own instinct far more than you trust the diagnosis and opinions of the professionals.
I say this because your instinct will always tell you the truth about you. Sometimes logic and reactions get in the way of that truth, but that still, small voice (the one you have to be very quiet and motionless to hear) will always tell you the truth.
And, your healing journey will not look like anyone else's journey.
I promise, there is a way through. I trust you will find it.
